That right there? That’s a flamethrower.
That’s a $500 flamethrower that’s being sold by Elon Musk’s Boring Company.
(Here’s a link to the page if you want to buy one or just check it out.)
They had 20,000 in stock, and by the time you read this, they’ll probably be sold out. That’s $10,000,000.
Elon Musk. An icon.
Okay, so when I first heard about the flamethrowers, I thought, “That’s silly. Why would anyone buy a $500 flamethrower???” Now that I’ve seen it, I kind of get it. It looks like something out of a video game, specifically Portal. If I had $500 to spare, I’d definitely consider buying it.
What would I do with it? I have no idea.
It’s kind of like my fascination with swords. I was in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, and there are a lot of cool things there, but my favorite exhibit was the one with, you guessed it, swords. (There were also these really cool old guns. One was half gun, half axe. How cool is that??? I’m focusing on the swords though because I want to, I guess.)
If I got a sword, I don’t know what I’d do with it. I just think they’re neat. If I could buy one, I probably would.
If there were a zombie apocalypse, I think the sword and Elon Musk’s flamethrower would be pretty rad to have. I get that, logistically, it wouldn’t make sense to have them. This flamethrower doesn’t shoot very far. (It has to be less than 10 ft because laws.) A sword would need to be sharpened, and again, the zombies would need to be close for me to get them.
However, logistics aside, just imagine that. You. In the middle of a bunch of zombies. Fighting them off with a flamethrower in one hand and a sword in the other.
