In class today we talked about happiness.

We discussed things like how much control we have over our own happiness, whether or not morals played a part, and whether it’s better to be more realistic than to not be. It was a pretty interesting conversation. One bit of it went into whether or not we’d prefer to be plugged into a machine that was programmed to make us happy. Personally, I voted against this, but it was interesting to think about it.

As our class ended, the professor gave us our assignment. We have to think about three good things and then write them down.. It’s simple enough. Honestly, if my assignments had been this easy in the past, that would have been amazing.

The point of the activity is to think about the good things in life. Generally, I think it’s not always something on which we focus, and we often take things in life for granted, even if we don’t mean to do so. Thinking about three good things a day makes you think more positively about life.

I thought for the first day I could share my three good things of the day, so here they are.

  1. Myself
It’s a bit narcissistic to start off like this, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. I’m a pretty alright person, in my opinion, and I’m grateful for that. It’s possible everyone thinks they’re alright, and it’s very subjective, but I think that even objectively, I’m pretty okay. I’m glad I turned out this way. Shout out to me.
  2. Water
Water’s pretty amazing. It’s one of my favorite drinks. I think if you had just met someone, and they said their favorite drink was water, you could probably conclude they’re boring. But you know what? Water’s good. You drink it all the time, or at least you should. It’s in you. If you think water’s boring, then you’re boring, because there’s a lot of it in you. I’m grateful that I can just run the tap and get clean water, and that’s something that should not be taken for granted.
  3. Spring
Winter’s over. I don’t have to wear a heavy jacket anymore. I can get away with a light one. I’m sure the weather’ll get better, and there’ll be more sunny, warm days. I’m looking forward to it. Also, the flowers? They’re amazing. I love them. There’s a lot of greens and browns and blacks and whites in my everyday life, and seeing pinks and bright yellows and purples is a really nice change.

Those are my three good things! I hope you start to think about the good things in your life. Feel free to share your three good things in the comments.
